The bond premium is usually 10%-15% off the court ordered bond, for example a $10,000 bond would be $1,000-$1,500 bail bond premium plus any fees required by the bondsman. You can obtain a bond with as little as 1%-5% down with payment plans to handle the balance of the bond.
Do you need a bondsman? Not if you have the full amount cash on hand to give to the jail, although if you posted the full bail amount with the court yourself, this money will be released to you at the end of the court process, provided the defendant appeared at all required court dates. Also if there are any court fines and fees those will be deducted from the bond you posted.
